What to Do When Your Baby Is in a Breech Position

Having concerns with your baby presenting breech at the last ultrasound? Fear not, you are not alone and there are some things that you can work on at home!

1. Relax- this might be the most difficult task to accomplish when you are worried about baby’s positioning, but relaxing your body will help ease tension. Help yourself relax by booking a prenatal massage or taking a bath.

2. See a Webster Certified Chiropractor- this specialized technique involves resolving intrauterine constraint. Less constraint allows baby to move more freely and ultimately get into ideal positioning. We perform the Webster Technique at ChiroHer, to find one near you go to The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

3. Home exercises/stretching- there are many exercises you can do at home that will help to reduce tension in the pelvis and promote optimal positioning of baby. A great resource for breech presentation exercises can be found at Spinning Babies.

4. check sleeping position- the position that will allow the most room within your pelvis is sleeping on your side with a pillow between your knees and ankles with as much of your leg on the pillow as possible.

5. Acupuncture- acupuncture has been used for centuries to help resolve breech positioning. For best results, begin treatment around 34-36 weeks

6. Swimming- the buoyancy of your body mixed with your 9 month belly can allow you and baby to feel weightless and ultimately relaxed. Many people swear by doing handstands underwater, flips and the traditional breaststroke.
